Hi Folks,

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. March 3rd we, (Salena the
Ferret, my wife, mother-in-law and myself) went to our monthly Ferret club
meeting. March 4th or 5th Salena developed diarrhea and was getting very
lathargic.

March 7th; I called the Vet and he wanted me to bring Salena in. H e was
able to feel "something" in her abdomin and it seemed to hurt her a bit when
he palpated her. He took 2 X-Rays and noted that something appeared to be
blocking her. He wanted to give her some barium and keep her over night. I
said fine.

March 8th; the Vet called and said that, uh, er, that Salena had "expelled"
a lot of "stuff" and that she seemed MUCH BETTER. He said that Salena had
eaten well, was very energetic and in general seemed to be fine and that I
could come pick her up as soon as I wanted. Well needless to say we (my
wife and I) went to get her right away. The Vet had given me some "Amoxi"
to give to her for the next 10 days twice a day.

Salena was very happy to be home and very playful. We gave her the Amoxi as
directed up through March 18th. She still had the diarrhea though. I
thought that maybe the medicine may have been contributing to that so I
wasn't terribly worried at this point. Well up through tonight she still
has the diarrhea and seems to be losing weight. Salena is a 4 year, 9 month
old Sprite who I assume was a farm ferret (1 noted blue dot on back of right
ear). When I got her the Pet Store said she was about 8 weeks old, so I put
her birthday at the early part of June. Anyway, she seems very week, she
feels "boney" all over, her hips seems week and her fore legs seem to be
"scrawny". She sometimes stumbles when she walks, more so in her rear legs,
and she can only lightly "play" for maybe 5 minutes before she needs to take
a "time out" and rest. She seems to drink a lot of water. I called the Vet
on Sat. and he wanted me to give her some plain yougurt for a couple days
and then check with him on Mon. I know that this prolly won't go out in the
FML till Tues. morning so I'll let you know what happens next.

Currently I'm at work and was trying to catch up on my FML reading trying to
find some more clues as to what may be bothering my little fuzzball. It's
real hard reading some of the stories about some of the other sick fuzzies
and being reminded how sick Salena seems right now. I'm afraid that she may
not make it. If it has to be that is one thing, but I'd at least like to be
there if/when her time comes. Sorry about the length of this.
