Question:

My boyfriend & I have just moved in together. He has 2 cats, and I have 1
ferret. They had ample opportunity to get to know each other before the
move, and everything is okay (well, mostly okay. Nancy now spends all of
her time chasing the cats mercilessly. I'm trying to train her to play
nice. Wish me luck).

This morning, I convinced Nancy to go in the cats' litterbox, and I was all
proud of myself for doing so, when my boyfriend told me that cats are very
nervous about this sort of thing, and that scat from other animals can
cause them to stop using that litterbox, and go in undesireable places.

Can anyone give me advice and anecdotes from previous experience? How do
cats take to this sort of thing?

Anon.
