In response to some questions from new subscriber, and
happy ferret ownee, Mark Ouellete <[log in to unmask]

Mark--
I enjoyed your message in the latest Ferret Mailing List
(it might have been #447, but I forget). I documented the
exploits of my own little tyrannosaurs (John & Yoko) a few weeks
back. J & Y are one-and-a-half years old now, and I have had them
since they were about six or eight weeks old. This does *not*
make me an expert, but I can tell you some things that work for
me. (I repeat, I AM NOT AN EXPERT. There are, however, MANY
experts on the Ferret Mailing List, including several with
extensive veterinary knowledge.) Some of your questions:
   [] Wet food? Linatone?
I have never fed J & Y wet food. They have eaten Science
Diet(TM) Growth (dry) food since I got them. A couple of months
ago I started mixing the Growth food (designed for kittens)
with the Maintenance (for cats), 50:50 (the critters wouldn't
eat straight Maintenance). They have thrived on this diet.
Once every two or three days, I squirt some Ferretone (like
Linatone) into their dish. They thrive some more. A recent
trip to the vet reassured me that they were healthy and happy
(veterinarial praise for their healthy coats and teeth).

[] You might ask your local pet food store to order some
Ferretone(TM) for your kids--it is made by the same company
as make Linatone. I think I once compared the labels, and
there is a slight difference in the formulations (I don't
remember exactly: this is a good question for the Ferret
      Mail List).

   [] Airplanes?
I haven't a clue. Mine seem to like car trips, even as long
as 2 or 3 hours. For short trips, their carrier container
is fine (they always get excited when I bring the carrier
out, because they know fun is at hand!) On longer trips I
throw their entire cage into the back of the wagon; my theory
is that the familiar environment of their cage makes the
      trip less stressful.

Good luck with Weasie & Farrah. Enjoy their company, and hide
all the small objects ;-).
