Two things that have to be taken into account:

1. They tend to die when released, not knowing how to care for
themselves

2. There are increased rates of some species specific diseases in farm
mink which pose a real threat to wild population of mink, and the wild
populations in some areas are very small with very important genetic
components. So, releasing farm mink carries the risk of destroying
natural populations of wild mink.
