Sorry for the long delay in providing an update on the rescue. It's really
been hectic here. Anyway....

The woman who was charged with animal cruelty in connection with the rescue
of 21 ferrets from her unlicensed shelter in Farmington, NH pled not guilty
to the charges. She was provided with a public defendant. The trial date
is set for Sept. 23.

The Cocheco Valley Humane Society will do their best to get the necessary
treatments for these ferret. So far your donations have contributed to
three major surgeries. We have at least 3 more to do. One ferret has been
diagnosed with a combination of insulinoma and cardiomyopathy, a very deadly
combination. The vet and care giver are trying to balance the medications
but it's rough going. Two others are on medication for insulinoma; one will
be going in for a blood glucose test this week.

Sebastian, who had a large tumor removed from the side of his face, is
reported to be doing very well by his care givers, and he is joining in play
with his step brothers and sisters. Several others are still in rough shape
and are being medicated and syringe fed. We lost one, who is now no longer
suffering. I just wish we could have gotten her earlier. Even a few weeks
may have made the difference. We have a long way to go before the rest are
out of the woods.

The humane society shelter who is sponsoring this rescue is small. They
have very limited resources and are still providing care for numerous other
animals besides these 21 ferrets. They can use any dollar you can spare.

Mark the donations, "Ferret Rescue" and it will go into a special fund for
the ferrets. You can mail the donations directly to:

Cocheco Valley Humane Society
262 County Farm Road
Dover, NH 03820

A big thank you to all of you who have sent in donations. They have been a
great help. The humane society shelter is very grateful for the generosity
shown by you.
