I just have to share this.

Yesterday Genie & Scully went to the vet for their vaccinations. While
Dr. K was examining them, we were talking. I told him about grinding up
chickens-bones and all and making chicken gravy for 'The Magnificent 7'.
He'd started to say "your feeding them BONES?" when I told him I ran it all
through a hand grinder, then after all was cooked we blended it even more
till it was almost like grains of sand. He was amazed, looked at me and
said "you really do this? That's neat, 'cause then it doesn't hurt them",
called out to his office staff if they were listening, then asked for the
recipe. He said he'd like to read it, and pass it on to others around here
who are dealing with sick ferrets.

He'd just gotten back from a conference where the vets were talking about
people making their own pet foods, and how much better these were. So this
morning I ran off a copy of the chicken gravy, that Carla from Why Not
Ferrets kindly sent me (twice-the first one disappeared). I also ran off a
copy of duck soup and Timmy's tonic for him. He knew I'd fed Duck Soup to
Socks when he was fighting ECE, and I know he was pleased with the results
from that. Figured he'd be interested in Timmy's tonic.

He told me obviously it was doing wonders for my troop, because Genie &
Scully looked wonderful. I told him wait the other three, Calvin, Suzy
Derkins, and Mookie get there to get their vaccinations, and Socks and Kit
go in for boosters! I've now got 5 out of 7 eating the chicken gravy.
Scully just started in all by herself this morning. Mookie's getting
closer to eating it, I can see him almost lapping it, but Genie won't slow
down long enough to observe it. She's too busy climbing up things (mainly
me). This was only the 2nd time the two girls had been in a carrier and
out of the house, so they were really nervous. I talked to them all the
way there and back, and kept my fingers in the carrier for them to smell
and brush up to. Of course, once out of the carrier and into either Dr.
K's hands or mine it was a different story. They both wanted to explore,
and were quite disappointed when we didn't let them.

My condolences to all who've lost a furchild-be it ferret, cat, dog,
horse-whatever. Dooks to everyone, hug your babies and play like mad
with them.

Rebecca (the chicken grinder) and the other two human slaves
Socks-Oh roomservice--bring me a plate of gravy, will you?
Kit-Whaddaya mean Calvin's eating all of it?????
Calvin-smack, slurp, smack, hey, gimme that saucer
Suzy Derkins-now, if I just lap delicately they'll think I'm a lady
Genie-lookout-I'm going Mach 3
Scully-hey-move over---this stuff's good
Mookie--yep, later, gotta chase mom and get tickled and cuddle
Chewie, Dribble, Sarabi, & Tigger--all right, trip mom, see if she spills
the chicken stuff, if that doesn't work, wait and see if the fuzzies leave
us any
