I acquired a taste for durian fruit in 1972 while I was living in
Singapore for a couple of years. (For those who are not aware, this
fruit tastes lovely but smells dreadfully.) I was pleasantly surprised to
see it on special at our local supermart so bought one, saved opening it
until the night before rubbish collection, and indulged myself in a
flavoursome feast and heaps of nostalgia. When I could eat no more, I
offered some to each of the 19 fur-babies currently in residence. Most
licked it and declined further helpings; but five of them considered it a
treat of great merit and after having a morsel of it, wanted lots more.
One of the little durian addicts is boarding with me, and now I have to
tell his mum that she needs to buy a durian fruit at least once a year to
appease her little guy's new appetite for exotic fruit. Not only that,
because four of mine love this fruit so much (my son ran inside to escape
the smell - what a wimp) I will now be obliged to buy it myself to let
them have their little taste of paradise whenever it's on special!

The things we do for our ferrets :-). Any other ferrets out there who
love durian?
