Question about playing in sand

I've been reading a lot of posts about people letting their fuzzies play
in sand (either inside in a box or at the beach).  Aren't there dangers
associated with this?  Sand fleas?  Getting sand caught in the nostrils or
inhaled into the lungs?  I don't know...that's why I'm asking.  If anyone
knows of the dangers (if any) associated with playing in sand, please post
them on the FML so that everyone can see them.  Thanks!
