Years ago I lived in a trailer that had fields behind it. Mice came in
from the fields. The ferrets were free roam and didn't seem to mind the
tiny roommates. I could sit on the couch and watch a mouse run across the
floor or get into one of the cages and drink from the water bottle while
hanging onto the wire or eating out of the ferret food dish with sleeping
ferrets nearby. Marley picked one up and each time it squeaked he'd put
it down. He wasn't quite sure what to do with it. I rescued the mouse
and put him outside. One time I found a hairless baby sleeping in a
ferret bed with 3 ferrets piled up behind him. They were careful enough
not to lay close enough to squish him. I put him back in the cabinet for
mom to claim.

My dog, Sunny, was the mouse catcher and very proud of his catches he was.
The ferrets would sometimes try to steal the mouse but they'd not make the
kill themselves.

I worried about neighbors putting out mice poison but I think all our mice
were permanent residents and their families!

Thankfully, we now live in town in a house and our wildlife consists of
outside squirrels, rabbits, and birds.

Oh, the birds mimic the ferrets noises. I was at my neighbors house the
other night and heard what sounded like a ferret squawk and looked up to
find a bluejay. That wasn't the first time.

Hugs. tle
