I had to laugh when I read that! I got my first ferret, Gracie, from a
supermarket bulletin-board. I was looking for a fert but didn't want to
buy from a petstore because I don't like to buy animals from pet stores.
The local animal shelter didn't have any... Anyway, I just happened to be
walking past the grocery bulletin board when the words "Ferret for Sale"
caught my eye. It was posted on a sheet of paper with the little phone
number tags. Nobody had yet taken any of the tags yet so I took the
ENTIRE advertisement and stuffed it in my pocket.

When I went to see/pick up Gracie, I knew she wasn't in a good situation.
THe people had had her for a year and half, she didn't even have a name!
She had wood shavings in a tiny cage, no hammy, water dish (that spilled),
etc. She's a teeny tiny little thing and I wonder if she's just tiny by
nature or failure to thrive. She's a spunky girl and oh so loving and
kissy. And so began the oddysey into ferretdom (and ferret math!). I was
up to 5 ferrets within a year....

I guess the only "good" thing about the whole thing is that Gracie wasn't
free. At least the people knew better than to give her away for free. I
would have paid more for her had they asked but I paid a pretty penny
anyway and she is certainly worth it!
