my ferret also scratched when she woke up and it was alot of scrathing, i
got concerned.  Turned out that he skin and coat were dry and causing her
to itch.  all I use is a conditioning spray on her everyday and it seems to
make her feel better.  The spray is by Refresh and is called Ferret
Deodorizing and Conditioning Spray.  I got it at PetSmart.  So, if you are
worried about your ferret scrathing too much, and see no fleas or no
obvious skin irritation, try this stuff.  Good luck!
