Zelda has been found safe and sound!!! Hooray!!!

For the person who is moving to CA with ferrets: I am in Southern
California and own six ferrets. My husband and I have had ferrets
for the last six-ish years, and we have yet to have a problem. We
occasionally take them to the park to play and to Petco to see all
the pet people and pick out new toys.

I also worked in a civilian capacity at a local Police Department for
three years, and they were aware that I owned ferrets illegally. It
was never an issue.

It's one of those laws that isn't really enforced until suddenly it
is. So basically, keep your babies inside and try not to notify the
neighbors too much that you have them. Have a backup plan in place
should something happen and you need to move your ferrets out of state
(we have family in Las Vegas who would take temporary custody of ours
should we get busted). But don't worry too much, because it's unlikely
that you'll be caught.

Oh, and in today's litigious society, only introduce your ferrets to
people you trust not to sue you if they get bitten, and keep their
rabies vaccinations up-to-date. If you're out at Petco or wherever,
don't tell people exactly where you live. Just a precaution against
vindictive people.

E-mail me if you'd like more info on living here with ferrets. I'd be
glad to chat with you!
