The FFDRI went into DISASTER RESPONSE STATUS on May the 11th at 11:50pm due
to the fires in New Mexico.

This is the most current ferret status.
Incoming due to fire: 16
Total brought to PF Ferret Shelter in Santa Fe, NM: 16
of which 6 have been fostered out temporarily.

I spoke with Paula Federici who runs the PF Ferret shelter at 9:20AM her
time this morning and she has reported that they will be going to the
HSUS & AHA shelters this weekend to pick up any ferrets which may be there.
She has also reported that they expect an influx of ferrets once people
return to their homes and find the homes destroyed and unlivable. Fires
are now in four different areas but are expected to be under control
sometime today (let's all pray for that). As more ferrets arrive they
will be shifted as needed to other ferret shelters and foster homes.

FFDRI is in constant contact with HSUS (FFDRI has worked long and hard with
HSUS during many disasters). Thanks to the cooperation, understanding and
continued assistance through all the disaster HSUS & FFDRI have formed a
fine bond to assist each other and we get constant updates as to the
situation. Both HSUS and AHA will be turning over incoming ferrets to the
Ferret shelters.

Please all ferret people join together to help these shelters help the
ferrets. Also it is vitally important that you check our web site at least
once each day so that you know the progress. As soon as we can get them
(if we can get them) photo's of the incoming ferrets will be posted on our
website.

All supplies should be sent to: Paula Federici, PF Ferret Shelter, 2640
Calle Primavera, Santa Fe, NM 87505. This will be the central point and
supplies will then be distributed to Gwynne McMurray at the High Dessert
Ferret Shelter at 329 Moon, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87123; as well as to foster
homes housing the ferrets. ALSO ANY SUPPLIES FOR OTHER ANIMALS CAN BE SENT
TO PAULA AND THEY WILL BE DISTRIBUTED.

I beg all of you to check our site at least once a day. Gather up supplies
and begin sending them AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!

FFDRI is shipping the ENTIRE DISASTER RESPONSE KITS (with exception of our
surgical equipment -- as it is not needed at this time). Please help us
help the Children of Fur, Feathers, Scales, Shells & Hooves

Either myself or Mr. Holowicki will try and keep the FML updated. For the
most current information (especially beginning this evening 05/12/00) watch
our web site.

Thank you
