I try to take my ferrets out just after they've pooped. I figure that gives
me a couple of hours, which is enough for a good bit of shopping or a trip
to the library. In this case, I take one ferret, who is wearing a harness
and a leash. If I think I might need it, I take my ferret knapsack, too.

If we're out all day, I'll take a pet carrier if we're doing stuff by car.
That has a hammock, a cuddly bottom, a squeaky toy, and a wee litter box in
the back.

Sure, if we've had them out for hours and they've gotta go! :) If we've
been out for a long time, we'll go outside and I'll plop fuzzit in a
corner. Viola!

>Speaking of converting bags, can I use a backpack?

I use a knapsack for short trips. It's got a ferret window in the back,
which only took a little while to install.

For best smuggling (on the bus) I've got what looks like a duffle bag, but
it really has lots of air holes on each end, and each end has a zippered
ferret-door. They love it! It has some sort of stiffish frame, so, while
it looks like a well stuffed duffle bag, it isn't. We got this bag from the
pet store and use it rather a lot. Great product.
