Some short notes to answer some questions n stuff, the other day.
Mass Ferret bill 295 passed the House unani.... overwhelmingly back on May
15th, and is still waiting for a Senate vote to be scheduled by Ways and
Means. The folks at the State House are really practiced at making everyone
feel good, and not committing to a thing, but the 'vibes' seem to be good at
the moment. My thoughts are that it may happen rather quickly and without
much debate after some of the tougher or more controversial items are
dispensed with. It appears that public opinion is really with us on this
one, and also that the law is being enforced in some areas and not at all in
others.

Most interesting discussion re ferrets, the Militia, border
crossings, airline counters and the like. I've always thought that honesty
was far and away the best policy, probably because I was always so poor at
the alternative. Also there is something about surrendering the point by
not telling the truth. Not that it has to be volunteered in the face of
overwhelming odds though either. Maybe they could be declared as 'Domestic
Mustelids' in the Airline case. :,)
Jimbo, I think that you are mistaken in believing that the
government is some sort of sinister force. In the first place the
government can't agree amongst itself about what it wants to do. The people
who designed it back in colonial times set it up that way on purpose to
limit power and slow down change. In the second place we all have the
power of the vote, which means we can work to change what we don't like.
Don't be impatient though, it didn't get this way overnight, and once a
policy takes effect it will take just as long to change it again. Would you
want it any other way ?? Public opinion is really the key, influence that
and the rest just happens, albeit at its own pace.

        - Never underestimate the power of an entrenched
Bureaucacy, it's impossible to stop an object at rest.
