Sharon Edwards mumbled something about:

We've pretty much decided over the last 7 or 8 years of having multiple
ferrets that leather sofas work best. We've had fabric and we've had/have
2 leather sofas and so far, the leather has held up extremely well. If
you buy the leather, go for the medium weight grade or heavier. The
really soft soft stuff will show claw marks. I don't think color matters
a whole lot; we have a leather sofa and chair in a forest green color and
then a sectional in a pale moccasin color and neither one has showed any
damage. The babies don't seem to dig at it as much either perhaps because
those little nails can't get a "nail hold". We also use hardware cloth
on the undersides of our chairs and sofas; easy to install with a heavy
duty stapler.
