Yes!  I've see that behavior in our ferret Peanut!  She's been gone now for
about 4 years.  She had cardiomyopathy when she started to do this.  (I'm
not saying your ferret has cardiomyopathy, just that I had one that did this
when she was sick)
 
She slept alot when she was sick and I liked to pick her up and put her on
my lap while she was sleeping.  She'd suddenly wake up and take a few
running steps and then start scratching.  It's very sudden.  I'm sure she
did it other times, but I remember her doing it when she was in my lap.  She
always scratched though.  One second she was peacfully sleeping the next she
was on the floor scratching.
