In 19 years we have had only one with infected glands.  Sometimes warm
soaks (with or without antibiotic runs) work; when not, then removal is
the way to go.  Expressing regularly from such tender tissue as ferrets
have can cause a problem to continue, according to the vet who removed
them from the one who had an impacted one.  I.E.: instead of a cure
regular expression MIGHT be a cause of problems.
