THE MOST ASKED QUESTION BY THE FIRST TIME FERRET OWNER
 
                What is a Ferret Frolic?
 
Well, we are glad you asked!  A "Ferret Frolic" is an event held
throughout the year by a ferret club or shelter.  It's an opportunity
for ferret shelters, clubs, and vendors of the ferret community to get
together and celebrate those furry little ferrts that steal your heart
and belongings.  The event is multi-faceted and contains something for
just about everyone.  There is plenty of hot food, bake sale goods for
the traveling humans and ferrets, a cheesecake and fancy dessert auction,
and shelters and vendors with tables offering just about everything and
anything you could want for your ferret.  A fun planned day for ferrets
and humans with a photographer to capture it all.  Items for sale at a
Frolic included everything for ferret-loving humans such as T-shirts,
jewelry, calendars, stuffed animals, lawn ornaments, light switch plates,
rubber stamps, Christmas tree ornaments, posters, art work and wall
hangings.  For the ferrets there are many products, hammocks, tubes,
toys, tents, cages, food, and many ferret safe supplies.  Most of the
products are produced by shelters, and resues for fund raising to help
in educating the public on ferret care, and support the care and placement
of needy ferrets.  There is usually a ferret vet specialist seminar on
medical issues and educational classes on daily, weekly, monthly and
yearly ferret care.  There is nothing quite as fun as watching the ferret
games once they get underway.  Games like un pot the flower where there is
lots of joyful digging as ferrets of all ages, sexes, and colors enjoy a
chance to do some of the things that they are scolded for at home!  Paper
bag escape, towel trampoline, ferret riding human musical chairs, cup
tipping, and the great tub races.  There are prizes for the largest and
smallest, the shortest and longest tail, the most unique markings, the
best trick and any other game a ferret can teach a human to try with the
utmost consideration for the care and safety of the ferrets.  Some frolics
have specialty rings.  There is usually a costume contest where a ferret
tries to look most like a human, flower, animal, or thing, and sometimes
just like their human.  Some ferrets are very picky as to what they will
wear and the creative ways a ferret can take off a costume that it does
not like will put laughter in everyone's heart.  The ferrets rest while
the human contests begin.  The human that does the best weasel war dance
requires a wonderful sense of humor and a body built like a ferret.  This
is most entertaining for ferrets and humans.  Then there are the auctions,
raffles and sometimes even ferret bingo.  A Ferret Frolic is a place for
families and ferrets to enjoy a wonderful day of pure fun.
