I must be a bad ferret owner too!  My ferrets are caged whenever I am not
at home and while I am sleeping, and I am very strict about this.  When I
allowed free roam (occasionally - like when I couldn't find them & I had
to leave for work) I came home to a dead ferret one day.  I don't know
exactly what happened because my boyfriend at the time cleaned everything
up before I saw it, but he (the ferret) managed to knock something over
onto himself.  I really felt like a bad ferret owner at the time and it
took a long time to get over the guilt.  I feel guilty about it now - 5
years later!
