I'm not in Ithaca, but have a ferret friend going to grad school there.
I'll forward your her email separately (she has told me before I can have
people contact her).
 
Performance Foods had problems with several batches of food last year.  I
suggest contacting them directly so they can look into this.  It could be
that the distributer or retailer did not store them properly, or it could
be problems with whole batches again.  From their web page, their phone
