I posted maybe a month ago about Benny and Joon, the sable ferrets who had
been abandoned in an apartment for a week before anyone found them. They
were raised on cedar chips, and Benny was still having some trouble getting
the litter box idea, although Joon is 100%. Well, Benny is now probably
*over* trained, since he will run up the stairs from the ferret room where
he is playing to use the box or papers where he was trained. This means he
has to realize his need in time to make it upstairs, or else I find a little
poop on two or three different steps where he goes as he runs. Poor guy!
He has never used the several boxes surrounded by paper which are in their
room, only the papers in his cage and that one training area. Silly fert.
It should be easy for anyone to train him to use the box of their choice
(and perhaps more than one box, instead).

Joon is long and dark, with many charcoal guard hairs over a light
undercoat, and very soft fur. She is sweet and friendly, loves to be petted
while she is waking up, and is polite about being held. Benny is a sweet
doofus. He loves to be handled and have his neck rubbed. I've spent so
much time working with him that I worry that he is becoming too attached to
me. When I rub his neck and he feels affectionate, he gently takes my
finger (the one that delivers ferretone) in his mouth and tries to stash me
under the radiator or in one of the dryer hoses. Guess what? I don't fit.
He rolls and rolls when he is excited and playing.

These are two really nice little guys, probably about 1 year old by now. I
am fostering them for the local shelter, and I cannot keep them. Eric put
his foot down at 9 ferrets, and I have to keep my promise if I want to be
able to foster and work with others.
