Wood stove pellets.  You can get a 40 pound bag for $3-4.  The pellets
are made from compressed saw dust.  Make sure it contains no additives, I
understand some brands do, but all the ones I've seen around here don't.
 
You may need to stock up in the spring, as many places will not carry it
during the summer months!
