Hi all,

Scott and I have been recipients of the FML for almost two years now, (not
so long as some of you, but a bit longer than others). I remember the first
FML post that we received. There was a Marshall Farms debate going on at
the time. During the months that followed, Marshall Farms seems to be a
subject that comes up about every 3 months or so. I feel the debates pop up
just often enough so that all the new subscribers can be thoroughly scared
into thinking that the new baby that they just purchased from the petstore,
or adopted from a shelter is going to develop an incurable disease within a
few months and pass on. I posted my first FML post regarding MF and got
promptly flamed offline. No big problem, I can handle that. Then as now,
my opinions have not changed. And kindly remember, they are my opinions.

I feel that any ferret, regardless of his/her lineage, deserves a good and
caring home. Ferrets don't care whether their parents are from a breeder or
from a big farm or from a small backyard hobby breeder. We, humans, are the
ones who care. I currently am owned by 16 of the little dears. 6 are from
breeders, 6 are from Marshall, 1 is from a small backyard breeder and the
remaining three I am not sure of as they have no tattoos or other
distinguishing marks and were adopted. Do I love any one less than the
others, no. Is any one of them more deserving of love than the others, no.
Is any one of them more important than the others, no. They receive equal
care and treatment.

As far as temperament goes, my Marshall babies by far have the more
congenial temperament. They seem to have a more calm and sweet nature. My
breeder babies are more excitable and stubborn! My one hobby breeder baby
is 8 years old, so she doesn't get into much mischief or create much chaos.
Of the remaining three, one is an absolute sweetheart, one is a sweetie
until she gets to the vet's office where she becomes Ms Hyde, and the third
is typical ferret-good temperament/disposition.

I guess my main point is: ferrets by nature are loving, friendly and a joy
to be around. It doesn't matter if he/she is a double-triple championship
star or a Marshall star or a Path Valley star or a recovered throwaway star.
They, each and every one, deserve and are entitled to a good home. Let us
look beyond the name and see the ferret for, after all, isn't he/she the
reason we are members of this list. This list is supposed to be a means of
learning and sharing more about our furry friends, why don't we all learn
from our ferrets and make it what it was intended to be, fun and exciting
(watch your ferrets the next time they are out for playtime and discover
life).
