In Ontario, there used to be a bite & kill policy. We were able to change
this as of September 3, last year. There is now a quarantine for 30 days
(trying to change this as well) for most bite cases. If the bite is
unprovoked and not during play, feeding or other ferret normal activities,
there is still a kill law.

However, the last known case of ferret rabies in Ontario was in 1987 in
Oxford county (near London Ont.) It was not transmitted to a human, but is
believed to be a vaccine reaction to a bad LIVE vaccine so, I don't think
we'll have too much of a problem to change the current laws.
