A few gifts to FML members to start the season.

Yeah, I have been surfing a bit again.

People here will recall Jackie's accounts of Ben and danger of mouth
burns from electrical cords:

AU. Penn Vet School article w some ferret mentions, including that they
are in millions of families just here in the U.S. alone:

Another resource I hadn't found before (ferret radiology, Dr. Karen

Haven't seen this photo before and it shows technique well for getting

In BioOne there is at least one ferret article (Dr. Avery Bennett on a
case of thoracic chordoma) but there isn't a direct link:

Okay: 220 ferret articles. Some will be restricted except for
abstracts, but I noticed on the home page that the journal does have
some open access articles, too. Tip: Forget the search box and select
"search" in the top menu bar. Then have the setting to look in all
publications and just look for articles that contain the word "ferret".
Leave the rest blank unless you know what you are looking for
specifically.

Here is something from one of their journals to take into account if
you ever have a ferret with Giardia:

920-8640, Japan. E-mail: [log in to unmask] Giardia intestinalis
has been found in a variety of mammals, including humans, and consists
of host-specific and zoonotic genotypes. There has been only 1 study of
G. intestinalis infection in weasels, but the genotype of its isolate
remains unclear. In this study, we report the isolation ofGiardia in a
ferret exhibited at a pet shop. The isolate was analyzed genetically to
validate the possibility of zoonotic transmission. Giardia diagnostic
fragments of the small subunit ribosomal RNA, Beta-giardin, and
glutamate dehydrogenase genes were amplified from the ferret isolate
and sequenced to reveal the phylogenetic relationships between it
and other Giardia species or genotypes of G. intestinalis reported
previously. The results showed that the ferret isolate represented the
genetic group A-I in assemblage A, which could be a causative agent of
human giardiasis.

END QUOTED ABSTRACT

Okay, on more searching the search engine there pulls up a LOT of
things that are NOT ferret articles, so look carefully through the
pages. They need Bill Gruber or Pam and Eric Sessoms to work up a
better search engine for them! :-) Instead using the words "Mustela
Ferret" takes the number down to 95 though I can guaranty you that
the lemur article, the giant anteater one and some others still don't
apply. Yep, they definitely need someone w the skills of Bill or of
Pam and Eric. Lousy searching... Many of the ferret articles are BFF
or BFF-related ones.
