When we had our first ferret, I had to take him to the vet and didn't
have a carrier at the time. So I put him in the back seat in an
open-topped box (duh). Well, of course, he didn't stay in it. He wound
up scooting between my legs and under the brake pedal at just a point
when I needed to apply them. I heard a squeal and felt the squish of a
soft body. Luckily I was able to stop and the ferret was fine. I bought
a carrier that afternoon. :-)
