Since elder 'Chopper the ( in younger years ) Organic Helicopter has always
so loved blue, making a point of stealing only blue baubles and so on, we
wanted to treat her to some blue despite her sight now being reduced to only
light and shadow by protein accumulating in her lenses. This morning Steve
found the perfect thing to shine a flashlight through for her: a New York
Times plastic delivery bag wrapped twice. Steve said that she made a very
entranced fuss over it -- much more so than when we do the plain flashlight
so perhaps she can still detect some color if it is projected strongly
enough (?) rather than just liking the bag and the flashlight. Little Pain
in the Butt ( an official name she recognizes along with it's variant ) has
always had impaired hearing for high pitched sounds, but being among the
most color sensitive in the ferret sight continua was a neat thing. ( Most
seem to have reds and grays, but there also appear to be some color blind
completely, and some with more colors. ) Now it's all smell and blobs, but
she's still the boss. We wonder if she sometimes thinks others may be more
dependent on smell as well; if she wants to enter a closed room with a
person in it she will now try the old approaches a few times then turn
around, stick her tail under the door and waft it around. "It's me; it's
me!"
