Little Humpty-back,
Little Kissy-face;
Little trusting soul,
We have failed you.

Oh, we prayed,
and we sent money
We worried and we wrote,
But we failed you.

We allowed those
who would serve us
to become our masters.
We have failed you
   . . . and ourselves.

But we won't forget you.
We'll remember you
Every time we look into
a fuzzy trusting kissy-face,
because that's the only
comfort left to us.

We are heartbroken,
We are bereft,
The same thing can happen
to our darlings, so
long as we permit this
insanity to prevail.

Goodbye, sweet boy,
We'll remember your lesson.

Diane
