Hi,
 
Ferrets will be ferrets, and want to explore everything.  Usually the best
way to make sure a ferret will learn is to just let him explore.  This
sounds cruel, but I have a woodstove as well and all of my ferrets had to
learn the hard way, and are not injured as well.  Good Luck!!!,
