RE: Vaseline
We always used Vaseline on our cats when I was little.  I'd tried Petromalt
with Dervish but she wouldn't touch it, not even with Ferretone on it.  I
use Vaseline on my lips instead of gloss, and Dervish would lick it all off
with ferrety kisses.  My vet told me it was fine to use in place of
hairball remedy, and Dervish is absolutely crazy about it.  She's even
tried to steal the tube several times! :-)
 
RE: Drinking water
Any self-respecting ferret will tell you the best places to get drinking
water are as follows:
 
1. off a hooman's foot when she gets out of the shower
2. puddles on the shower floor
3. a dripping faucet
4. condensation on a glass (assuming the hooman won't let the ferret have
   what's actually in the glass)
5. condensation on a window
