One idea...
 
You can find humane, non-harmful traps for things like racoons and skunks
at some hardwarestores.
 
They look like a kennel, and have some sort of treat on the inside wall,
when the treat is eaten, pulled, taken, etc, that triggers the door to
shut.  The ferret stays in the kennel (with a ferret-smelling hammock
perhaps) over night and would be safe from other animals there.
 
Dribbles of linatone leading to it wouldn't hurt either.
 
This method is also used to trap feral male cats so they can be neutered.
 
I'm sure the A.S.P.C.A even has a cat trap you could use.
