I just want to clarify the use of Imrab in ferrets; there are several
'varieties' of the Imrab vaccine. All are intended to vaccinate against
rabies. Three are listed on the 1997 compendium; Imrab 1, Imrab 1 Bovine
and Imrab 3. Only Imrab 3 is approved for use in ferrets. The other two
are not. If you go to a vet who treats mostly dogs and cats, you can tell
them that the type of Imrab that provides 3 year immunity in dogs and cats
is the one approved for ferrets. Annual vaccination is required for
ferrets. Imrab 1, which provides 1 year immunity for dogs and cats is the
one not approved for ferrets.

But any vet should be able to figure this out by reading the current copy of
the Compendium for Animal Rabies Control, published (among other places) in
the first issue of the JAVMA every year.
