I'm curious if the shelters with the highes expenses are those that were hit
with ECE. In our situation, pre-ECE my expenses were minimal. Our little
bout with ECE cost about $4,000. Since we were hit with ECE 2 years ago our
medical expenses have zoomed. We've done 15 adrenal surgeries, 4 spleen
surgeries and it seems as if we are going to the vet about every two weeks
with someone (usually more than one). In those two years I've put $11,000
on my charge cards, and I do pay for some of their medical care with cash
too so that $11,000 is only a portion of the cost. Their food I pay cash
for so it isn't included in that amount. The majority of the amount is
medical and some is for supplies and supplements.

Saturday night Ollie blocked. We rushed him to the vet and spent two hours
in the clinic. Ollie is scheduled for adrenal surgery on Tuesday and I
scheduled LG and Brina for adrenal surgery and Pib for the knob on his tail
to be removed on Thursday. This will be a $1,000 week for us but the
medical care needs to be done and in a timely manner. Even if I didn't have
a credit card payment I couldn't afford this amount in cash. My savings was
depleted long ago. But I can't think of anything better to spend it on!

Thankfully, I have a good job and can afford to make the monthly payments.
It isn't any different to me than it is for someone else to make a car
payment.

Hugs to all. tle
