My 2 yo male ferret (King) developed some sort of a rash on his chest a
few weeks ago. Took him to a different ferret vet than usual (mine was
inconveniently on vacation) and he was checked (visually) for just about
everything we could think of; fleas, ticks, ringworm, etc). Thought it
could be some sort of allergic reaction to something in his environment,
but could not identify the cause, as nothing I could think of had changed
in the recent past..Except that he'd been at the pet sitters house and
was a bit traumatized after his sister died, was cremated, was lost,
but now is reconstituted and okay, but that's another story for another
day....

Anyway, I digress. The vet decided to treat the symptoms, and I began
to bathe him with a sulfanide shampoo every few days. Also, did a deep
cleaning of the ferret enclosure, laundry, floor, litter boxes, dishes,
etc. Another spot of irritation appeared on the back of his neck a few
days ago.. I'd treated for heartworm about a month ago with a heartowrm
pill after he came home from the sitter's, and yesterday put Revolution
on him.

I have an appointment with my regular ferret vet this afternoon, and I'm
hoping she has seen this before; she's a bit more experienced than the
first vet I took King too. In the meantime, does anything else come to
mind? The rash is an orangey color, and there are some missing patches
of fur around the rash. The rash was mainly located on his chest,
between his front legs, with a few small patches of orange on his lower
belly. Also, a patch on his front leg, and the most recent is on the
back of his neck. Thinking it could be an allergy, or a parasite.
Hopefully we'll solve the problem; King's really not happy about
frequent bathing w/ the medicated shampoo.

Thanks,
Brenda
