Hi everyone,

Well, we got a new ferret from the Humane Society on Thursday. Still
don't have a name, but could probably use some help. He has short white
socks, is brown, has a 1/2 blace nose and a much, much lighter tail (is
it going to turn white?) He's a real sweetheart.

Took him to our vet that same day before getting him acquainted with our
others. Wanted to get him checked over and vaccinated. Also wanted to
have his age determined. The Humane Society said he was around a year
old, but he sure had a lot of plaque for that age. Our vet said he had 2
cracked teeth is why one looked discolored. Maybe has been chewing on
cage bars?

Also took along Max and Sadie as had questions on both of them. Max has
had episodes of frothing from the mouth no other symptoms of Insulinoma.
His blood sugar was at 38, so she said to put him on Pediaprid for life.

Sadie has coarse, thinning hair and figured she has adrenal which the vet
confirmed. I asked about getting the vaccinations for Sadie and Max for
that evening, also. Our vet said she wouldn't vaccinate a sick ferret.
They have enough resistance built up from the other years that they
wouldn't need any vaccinations any longer. Is this true? She said that
both are terminal, but may have a few years left.

I also had her listen to Sadie's lungs as she seems to have a noise
somtimes when she breathes. We got her from a shelter maybe 3- 4 years
ago and at some time in her previous life, she's had a broken jaw.
Sadie has always snored when she's slept. Our vet did notice something
bronchial related, but doesn't want to put her on antibotics.. Neither
my husband nor I can remember why, or if she even said why, but she said
we could give her Children's Triminic (can some one tell me how much,
too, on a 2 lb. girl). Sadie has put on a quite a bit of weight in the
last several months. She went into a depression when one of our ferrets
died in a horrible household accident in December. She hasn't danced
since...and she was always such a lively ferret.. But in trying to get
her back to normal, and to put on some weight, I enticed her with chicken
soup. She will eat as much as you put in front of her. She is more
limited as to how much she gets now as her breathing is more noticeable
with her weight gain..

When we left, our vet said all 3 ferrets looked really good. Does the no
vaccinations and no antibiotics sound right? I am by no means a ferret
expert, but am just curious.

Also, some new name idea would be greatly appreciated. We have
considered Murphy and Ollie. Our other boys are named: Max, Simon,
Dude, and Curtis.

Thanks for all the help you can give!

Sincerely,
Connie
