I don't know if they are the most popular pets in Japan.  We were stationed
there with the military from 1989 - 1995.  We went all over Japan, and know
lots of Japanese people.  But we never saw a ferret until we got back to
the US, not to mention we never saw any supplies for them either, almost
everyone I know there has the standard dog or cat.
