Don't give up on it.  Many ferrets take several tries - and a dab on the
gums really isn't the way to go.  Obnoxious as it may sound, you've got
to shovel the first several feedings in with your finger.  Warm it up to
just over room temperature.
 
Over a decade or so, I can still count the ferrets who didn't eventually
warm to chicken baby food on the fingers of one hand.

[Sukie hint: ferrets imprint on acceptable foods in their first 6 months
so introduce sick foods like meat baby foods and a/d then for easiest
acceptance when they get ill.]
