I believe that the safest way to give the rabies and distemper vacinnes
is one at a time (a week or so apart) each pretreated with benadryl and
the shot given in the neck area.  There are more reactions to distemper,
but it's best to wait at the vets for at least 30min to be sure there is
no reaction for either.  The newer distemper vaccine, Merial by
Rekumbitek (spelling?!) is the safest.
 
This is info I've gotten over time from vets, if anyone knows better
please post!

PS I have also heard that reactions get stronger over time, if I had a
ferret react I don't think I would vacinate them again.  I would just
be extra careful in who and what they get exposed to.
