Kiki is loosing his hair on the end of his tail and the center of his
back. I know what this means, and have opted to go with the shots, vs
surgery. My question is, how long do ferrets usually live on Lupron
shots? He's only about 3 years old and I want to do what's best for him.

I did the "right" thing with my first sicki and got the surgery, and she
died. Kiki is my first, and favorite, ferret. I almost collapsed when
Little Bit died, and she was the least favorite of my bunch. I know Kiki
will go eventually, as that is the nature of life. The end result is
always the same. I just don't want to put him through surgery and have
him die. But alternately I don't want to go through the hassle of
monthly shots and have him die in a year either. (yes, it is a BIG
hassle to get any of the guys to the vet. I work from 530 a.m. to 6
p.m. and live too far from work to get home and back again during my
lunch break) I do have a pair of dear friends that will let me take him
to their home/shelter but I would have to drop him off at 5 a.m. and
that's a lot to ask.

Ps, either way, off to the vet we go Saturday. My son found a new one in
the area and I have to call for an appt.
