Gordon:

When I had cage diggers I added a 4 inch drain pipe connection to my
cages and ran pipe to a dig box full of rice. The dig box was one of
those under bed type plasic tubbs that I cut a 4 inch hole in one end
of the top to connect the PVC pipe to. I held the pipe in with a length
of mechanics wire like a long twist tie. I added small vent holes in
the top for fresh air.

Every night I pushed all the rice to the center of the box so the
digger could come in one side and dig his way to the empty area on the
other side. Sometimes I would add small toys for them to dig to. I
avoided any toys that could be pulled into the tubes and cause a
blockage. Don't use dryer tube, they will tear throught it the first
night.
