Hello fellow FMLers,

I am not sure what to do about one of my ferrets who seems to have a problem
with his anal sent glands. He is almost two years old, and about 7 months
ago he had a blockage of his anal glands that caused him to occasionally
release some "spray" when the pressure built up. The vet "squoze out" his
glands and gave him a couple of shots to combat any possible infection and
dilate the gland.

This worked for a while, but after several months he started to smell like
spray again every so often. I took him to the vet once more, but the vet
said he could detect no blockage or build up in the glands. Since then, the
problem is a thing that comes and goes in terms of frequency. Sometimes it
happens every day, and sometimes it doesn't happen for weeks.

Anyway... I'm not sure what to do about it. While it is definately not
related to normal spray-inducing behavior (i.e., angry or scared), it also
doesn't seem to bother him too much. Unfortunantly, it bothers me a lot and
is quite stinky. On the other hand, I'm not sure what I should do -- is it
dangerous for him to have the glands removed at this age? Are there any
other options?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Sam
