When I bring my lot out I use a medium/small-sized dog carrier which I
have two of. Both have a water bottle and attachable food dish (that
USUALLY stays on long enough for the trip before they get bored). I
have also found it easy to rig up hammocks to a good height from the
side bars. Just recently I bought a smaller 1 ferret sized carrier for
$10 from a wildlife center. It has a useful little belt clip on top.

I put the carriers in the back seat, door forward. I bring the bottom
strap of the belt around the door (useful for holding the bottle
tight!) and if possible put the lock on before pulling tight. Keeps
them nice and cozy inside.

WARNING: I know of someone who's ferret chewed off the rubber bits on
the closure of the carrier. To be on the safe side (You never know what
the lil boogers will do!) I only use the kind where the closure comes
out the top and bottom of the box and bends around where you squeeze.
All carriers I've seen have a lil box and most of the ones with rubber
bits come out the front, not top or bottom. If you have the front kind,
most of the bits come off easily but are sometimes a pain.

I also want to remind everyone how insanely important it is to bring
your ferret's paperwork ANYWHERE you go. I keep a binder with every
scrap of paper (plus rabies tags) on my crew and that comes along with
me whenever even one ferret leaves my house. I'm currently working on
a profile for each ferret including detailed description, photos, any
medical ailments, personality, etc. If something were to happen and I
can't respond while out with them, at least there will be something
to help should they be taken to a vet or something. If anyone is
interested in this, please shoot me an email. I can send it to you
when I get it done or if enough people want it I'll find a way to get
the file on here.

Safe travels!!!
