Greetings Everyone!
I recently adopted my Koto from a local "no kill" shelter. Because the
shelter is the only "no kill" shelter in the Quad Cities, we are funded
entirely by the generosity of others and the funds received in adoptions.
Everyone must fill out an application to adopt. The applications are
reviewed, and a decision is made as to whether the person will be able
to provide the best care for the little one. Here, adoptions are not
"automatic". The best interest of the little one comes FIRST. I live in
Illinois, in the Quad City area, (along the Mississippi River: Moline,
Rock Island, Il; Bettendorf, Davenport Iowa). This shelter is the nicest
shelter I have ever visited. All the animals that are taken in are given
medical treatment. They are given their vaccines, (up to date) if needed
and neutered or spayed if they have not been already. The people who work
at the shelter as well as the volunteers truly love animals and are not
there "just for the money". I have never seen a more loving group of
people. The shelter director has 12 fuzzy's of his own. This alone warms
my heart. At this point, we have many little ones who are in need of a
home. 3 ferrets, One iguana, 3 guinea pigs as well as kittens, cats,
puppies and dogs. The shelter director travels over 3 hours (one way)
whenever there are ferret baby's in the Chicago area needing homes. Today,
he is making a trip to Chicago to pick up 8 or 9 fuzzy's. I am thrilled
that these little ones are being brought to a shelter where they will have
no fear of being "put down". We have plenty of "proper" cages for them to
play in, and an area where they will be allowed to run free daily. Here,
they will be given a generous amount of love until they are adopted. I
will post this evening to let you know what fuzzy's were brought in. If
anyone is interested in adopting, please let me know, I will be more than
happy to forward more information to you.
