E. coli can be very dangerous for ferrets, and has been fatal both
for domestic ferrets and for BFFs when the strain is a shiva toxin
producing one. Although most problems from it happen with raw food, the
shiva toxin that some strains produce can at times be present after
cooking. This study goes into how low temperature cooking may also
present more of a risk for bacterial survival than high temp cooking
even w the same temperature end point, at least in regards to this
bacterium.
