The discussion of pet foods has been interesting.

First an observation: Because availability of Totally Ferret has been
limited in the past, I have fed my ferts Mazuri Ferret Chow, from Purina.
Not quite the percentages of TF but my ferts have always done quite well on
it. About 2 years ago, TF became available and to get my ferts to eat it, I
started mixing half and half. It didn't take long before I noticed that
after a day, the food bowl only had Mazuri in it..all the TF was gone! I
still had a large supply of Mazuri left so the plan was to do the 50-50 plan
until all the Mazuri was gone, then go 100% TF. Welp..a week or so later, I
noticed that all the Mazuri was gone and only TF was left. WHOA there
Nellie...~this~ was a developement! I started watch my ferts' feeding
habits more closely and noticed in 4 - 6 days, they all went back to the TF
and left the Mazuri alone. Well...it has cycled like this for 2 years now.
Needless to say, I have continued to purchase Mazuri, as well as TF and
still mix 50-50.

One plus when I started feeding TF and when the 'kids' are on their TF kick,
the poop content goes WWAAAAYYYYY down.

Now for a question. My Billie, before he died, lost all his teeth. (That
took over 1.5 years.) I bought cans of Hill's Science Diet, Feline Growth
and fed that to Billie. He loved it. Got fat on it in fact! He did not
like Iams, but no matter. The contents, percentages, and costs are
identical. If I had purchased SD,FG in dry form, the protein percentage
would have been around 30 + or -. The canned food is only shown as being
13%. A BIG difference. In reading other labels, such as Iams, the same
deviation occurs. Why is the addition of water such a reducer in protein
content of a given food?

BTW...I tried the old 'soak the dry food in water' trick to create a soft
food, but it molded too quickly..and I live in a relatively dry climate.
(15 to 30% relative humidity on damp days!) When I say quickly, if I did it
in the morn, it was moldy by the afternoon. Not acceptable for my
Billy-Bob..........
