Danee is far from alone in not using laxatives on a regular basis.  I
know many who do not.  I only use it when I suspect there may be a
problem, like the ferret is undergoing a heavy shed and licks himself
a lot, or someone has chewed on something they shouldn't.
 
Overuse of laxatives can cause problems such as irritated intestines,
and decreased absorption of critical nutrients.  In my opinion, it
should never be used on a daily basis.
 
I agree that ferrets on natural diets are less likely to have blockage
problems, but that doesn't mean those on kibble will have them.
