Lump Inside My Ferrets Skin

I was given a 4 year old ferret by a coworker who didn't want her any
longer.  I notice a lump the size of a quarter just under her skin, on
her side just below her ribs.  I took her to a vet and was told that
this is normal.  Has anyone ever heard of this or know what it is.
