I've not heard of emphysema in ferrets before but I don't find it
difficult to believe that a ferret could get it.  They're land mammals
and their lungs work the same way ours do.  If humans can get cancer or
emphysema from repeated exposure to second-hand smoke, then I would
expect that ferrets can, too.  Would it be accurate to describe the owner
as a chain smoker with no fresh air anywhere in the house?
