Hello All:
I took Odo in to the vet today for an evaluation of possible adrenal
disease. Fortunately my vet said not to worry - yet. He felt Odo's
symptoms were not yet severe enough to warrant surgery or even testing at
U of T. The vet must have had a slow day because he talked to me for
almost an hour about adrenal disease. For what it's worth, I pass along
his opinions, based upon his own experiences. He is an experienced ferret
vet and does roughly one adrenal surgery a week, for years. He is
absolutely convinced that adrenal disease is caused by early neuter/spay
and stresses related thereto. He feels that when the job is done, a few
cells are always left over, even if the job is complete and that they
migrate to the adrenal glands, ultimately becoming tumors. He said he
can't remember the time when a late neuter/spay patient of his had adrenal
disease. Just thought I'd pass it along.
